The primary mode of transportation to reach Dhigurah is by utilizing public speedboats, which was our chosen means of travel. Departures occur daily, both in the morning and afternoon, originating from Male airport and the city.
The duration of the speedboat journey to Dhigurah spans approximately 2 hours, with a cost averaging around $50 USD per person for a one-way trip. Children aged 3 and above are charged full fare.
Typically, the boat ride maintains a relatively smooth course, contingent upon weather conditions. Onboard facilities include a restroom and ample storage space for luggage. The vessels boast modern amenities, featuring comfortable seating arrangements, along with complimentary bottled water for passengers.
Departures from Male to Dhigurah are scheduled for 11 AM and 4:30 PM (10 AM on Fridays), while return trips from Dhigurah to Male depart at 6:30 AM and 1:30 PM (1:45 PM on Fridays). En route to Dhigurah, a brief stopover is made at Dhangethi island.
However, it’s important to note that multiple speedboat companies operate along this route, and the timetable may undergo occasional revisions. Hence, it’s advisable to cross-reference the schedule with your accommodation provider in Dhigurah prior to departure.

One of the smoothest ways to reach Dhigurah is by catching a brief 20-minute domestic flight via Villa Air / FlyMe from Male to Maamigili island’s airport (VAM). From there, a short 5-minute taxi ride to the harbor precedes a 20-minute speedboat journey to Dhigurah.
Typically, there are 3 or 4 flights available daily along this route, with one-way ticket fares starting at $170 USD for adults and $85 for children under 12 years old; toddlers under 2 fly complimentary. The cost usually covers the speedboat transfer. However, should sea conditions become too turbulent for regular boat travel, this option might be the sole means of reaching Dhigurah.

This walkability is one of Dhigurah’s appealing features, as it eliminates the need for transportation costs. However, if you prefer, hotels offer bicycle rentals for half-day or full-day use.

North West Beach / Bikini Beach
Dhigurah’s primary beach, North West Beach, stretches along the entire western side of the island. This designated ‘bikini beach’ welcomes tourists to wear swimsuits and enjoy sunbathing. The best time to visit the sandbar is around 9 or 10 in the morning when it’s less crowded and the sun is milder. If walking isn’t appealing, you can also reach it by bicycle or rickshaw from your hotel.
At low tide, you can follow the sandbar to the neighboring LUX Resort, but remember, entry is restricted to resort guests. Be sure to bring plenty of water, as there are no facilities to buy drinks at the sandbar, and it can get extremely hot at midday.
Free sun chairs and umbrellas are available near the end of the beach where you can leave your belongings while you swim.
How Long To Stay
Dhigurah is a compact island, allowing you to explore its main attractions in just 2 or 3 days, though extending your stay is tempting. We spent 3 days there and would have gladly stayed for a week or two!
If you share our love for the beach and ocean swimming, you’ll find it endlessly enjoyable. Additionally, spending a few more days to see whale sharks and embark on other excursions around the island is well worth it.
